On the Rocks Part 1 and Part 2

Easy Listening never was. Nevertheless, those of you still peckish after devouring a Flaming Pie will find room for these deliciously demented desserts from Capitol Record's Ultra-Lounge series. "On the Rocks part one" and "part two" will delight fans of the "Golden Throats" series from Rhino. Although not as cheesy, the Capitol compilations will still evoke powerful memories of Dentist waiting rooms from years past.

Each disc contains 23 mind-altering renditions of 60's classics, including 10 Beatles covers. "On the Rocks part two" will curl more toes than it's predecessor and is worth its weight in cheese. "Part two opens with The Johnny Mann Singers defacing Heart Full of Soul. The liner notes state: "It takes the Yardbirds' yearning and turns it into lawn furniture". Frances Lai's version of Carry That Weight starts off like every early 70's sitcom. I expect Mary Tyler Moore to come spinning out of my speakers at any moment. Fellow Canadian Guy Lombardo rates a 10 on Steve's Cheese scale with his maliciously muted cover of Mrs. Robinson. The Beatle classic Blackbird is treated to a toe-tapping, finger-snapping rendition that will send many Beatles fans running from the room. If Sandler & Young don't do it, Mrs. Elva Miller surely will. The Crooner Anti-Christ tries on These Boots Are Made for Walkin' and the results are dangerous. Words fail me. You should regain consciousness in time to hear Kurt Russell serve up the bonus track, Sugar Sugar.
